Summary

A typography essay, visual poems and a visual novel, made solo as coursework in autumn 2022. All three run on the same editorial rules.

The work

The rules came first: one format, one grid, one typeface pairing, one hierarchy between heading and body, applied identically across the three pieces. The experiments only break those rules.

A spread-by-spread plan controlled the order. It fixed which spread changes size, letterspacing or the direction of a line.

Reflection

Experimenting was not abandoning the rules. A broken arrangement only reads when the basic hierarchy under it holds.
